Identity every category of behaviors prior to observation (aggressive kids in the playground: list everything that qualifies as a member of each category (look for name calling, punching, stealing, need clear operational definitions. Frequency method: count number of times you observe a behavior in a fixed amount of time (go out for recess and count how many times in an hour a kid punches another) Duration method: measure amount of time spent engaging in behavior (how long someone goes on their phone in class)
