Clinical psychologist: diagnose and treat individuals with psychological disorders. Counseling psychologist- focuses on a less severe disorder. School psychologist- looks how to motivate and improve student learning. Industrial psychologist- work in workplace trying to see how to persuade people to buy their products. Psychiatry- go to med school can prescribe medication. Science- a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of a testable hypothesis. Advantage- inexpensive, easy to collect data from, large samples. Experiment- tests to see if one variable causes another. Needs to have random assignment, a control group, and experimental group, and ethical to test. Disadvantage- if it is not an ethical experiment you can not do it, also may only apply to lab settings. Correlational study- looks at two naturally occurring variables to see if there is a relationship.
