There are 10 digits probably because we have ten fingers. 128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1 these are 8 bits represented and start from the left and see if you need the bit on or off. 128 is off because 128 is higher than 56 so it is a 0. 64 is off because is higher than 56 so it is a 0. 32 is on so 32 +16 is 48 which is lower so keep it on. 8 plus 48 is still lower or equal to 56 so it is on. 4,2,1 are all off because if you add them to the chain the value is more than 56b. It is a table and every character in the english language is represented by a decimal. Example: capital j is represented by 74. 7 bit is 128 characters in the ascii chart.
