Radical reconstruction brings sweeping changes to southern life: slavery effected nearly everything, 4,000,000 new citizens. Politically: republicans now control southern governments. Rewrote state constitutions: african americans participates and lead in politics. Nationally and locally: a handful of northerners come south and take leadership roles. Were there to exploit the way of the south. Economically: end of slavery leaves southern economy in flux. Now african americans could now decided what they wanted to do with their lives. Whites expected them to work for them only to get wages: many african americans wanted to move away from their plantations.
