The space of the frame: the film frame encloses the image we see on the screen and is determined by the camera"s viewfinder, onscreen space and offscreen space. How is space visually communicated: mise-en-sc ne, cinematography, editing, mise-en-sc ne: arrangement of screen space as a meaningful organization of visual element. (basically the stuff in the movie) Elements: sets and locations, actors and staging, costume and makeup, props and d cor, lighting. Lighting designs: high key- (eg musicals and family movies) gives happy and light vibe. Gives time of day: low key- (eg horror movie, film noir) gives tense, cautious and on edge vibe. Can create -> chiaroscuro effect: pushes light in artful and dramatic way, cinematography: process of capturing moving images on film or in a digital storage device. Director of photography (dp) is in charge. Includes: framing, camera angles, distance, movement, color, animation and visual effects.
