Tweens: 6 hours a day spent consuming media. Teens: 9 hours a day spent consuming media. Tv: weekly episodes in 13- week seasons, reruns in summer. Comfortable, familiar, mostly white, characters and stories and settings. Communal viewing at home with family and friends; surrounded by distractions. Filled the time (often stayed in front of set as couch potatoes) Or in bars/ restaurants to see live sports. Tolerated commercial interruptions because used to get food, go to the bathroom. Shows and sports structured for ad breaks. Dramatic structure is changed based upon ad breaks. Feature length, one at a time, high production values, better quality acting/ richer stories. Higher expectation for entertainment; edgier/ more adult fare (sex and violence) Couldn"t see again for several months unless someone had hbo. Communal immersive experience with strangers in darkened theater. Planned social event with a few friends. Binging on tv feels like a really long film.
