Hearing - low frequencies are pretty good but high frequencies are affected: developmental because she was born with it, audiologist, slp, ent (ear nose and throat), special ed teacher. Nasal cavity- m,n, ng, three sounds have a nasal quality to them. Hard palate - several consonant sounds produced - critical for speech production. Where back of throat and nasal cavity meet - nasal pharynx. Larynx - vocal cords are found within larynx. Hard palate - biological problem could be: eating, swallowing. Phonation - sound production - where we produce sounds - vocal folds. Takes the sound and makes it into speech - words, vowels, consonants, Tongue, lips, hard palate, soft palate (velum) - all used to make speech meaningful. Quiet breathing - inhale - muscles contract, chest walls expand, lungs expand, negative pressure in lungs, air rushes in, muscles stop contracting. 50% of the time during quiet breathing inhale/50% exhale. In english, all speech is produced during the exhalation phase.
