Piaget helped create the first iq test (shows the differences of how brains work such as artistic brains and intelligent brains noticed: common mistakes amoung age groups, systematic differences amoung older and younger children became popular in us in 1960. Piagets theory: constructive approach: children construct their own understanding and try to fit new information into what is already known ex: children learn what a dog is but now think every animal is a dog, systematic changes in kids thinking occurs at approximate ages, 4 universal stages: sensorimotor, birth 2 yrs, building schemes through sensory/ motor exploration, ex: infant tries to repeat and action and therefore creates a new schema. Preoperational: development of symbolic function, children have difficulty with part whole relations, preoperational thought: child has semilogical, conservation skills not yet complete as child understands quality but not quantity of object, reversibility is not understood yet concrete operational.
