Races can be perceived differently depending on where you are in the world. Race was thought to be biologically determined between races. People thought under physical characteristics that there were differences. People thought some races were superior to others. Tried to use science to prove the superiority of whites. Further biological research invalidated the claims of biological racial differences. Environment, social structure, and culture determine social outcomes not your purity biology. Social race means anything the dominant group wants it to mean. Dominant and nondominant groups vary in each society. Turning one"s prejudiced attitudes into an action. Race was phenotype, ancestry and group affinity. Ethnicity - a social construction based on the culture and common interests. Constructed from within and outside of the ethnic group. Ethnicity developed in early 20th century because of changing demographics.
