How does urbanization affect economic development? (central place theory versus urban bias/hyperurbanization) Central theory: cities are the center of growth. The city is the center place where all the finance can come together. There is a sense of convergence in city. As a country, we should pool all of our resources into that city. Durkheim (ammunity) believed that urbanization makes people more isolated from each. Urban bias and hyper urbanization: there are some problems with cities being in the center. The problem is that the government will devote all of its resources in making the city great and will not have enough resources in making the rural area great. How does urbanization affect social relationships? (durkheim and simmel versus gans and abrahamson) other (alienation). Durkheim believes that this feeling of isolation will lead people to suicide. The cause of suicide, according to durkheim is people do not feel incorporated in society.
