Getting socialized into: culture - norms, values, knowledge to engage w/material culture. Identity - the distinctive characteristics of a person"s or group"s" character that relate to who he is and what is meaningful to him (your sense of who you are) Social identity - other ppl"s reading of who you are/expectations of who you are. Self identity - ongoing self development/ how ppl treat you/ in your head who you see yourself being. Socialization most intense during childhood & continues throughout life (ppl continue to treat you w/certain expectations & bring you into the norms/values of society) Through process, learn variety of social roles - socially defined expectations for a person in a given social position.
