Criterion a(active-phase symptoms) two or more of the following, each present for significant portion of time during a 1-month period. One of these must be 1,2, or 3: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior, negative symptoms (diminished emotional expressions or avolition. Type 1 being first 3 (delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech) type 2 was negative symptoms: grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior means there is no productive outcome from the thought. Peculiar behaviors are said to be different from a typical behavior but you have to keep in mind what their delusions are. If their delusions are people are out to get me, running away and hiding might seem peculiar. But they are no more violent than anyone else is. 10% of schizophrenics do commit suicide(behavioral outcome of the delusions they have) things that should be there.
