Mechanism for finding deviation: mechanism to restore. Liposuction, stomach banding, do not work: stomach reduction does work lowers appetite. Cultural effects on appetite: appetite preferences are sometimes determined in utero via mother"s appetite, celiac disease: sensitivity to gluten, places that do not grow wheat around their living area have celiac disease. Large intestine: removes water from bolus for the body to use. Hypothalamic integrator: arcuate nucleus (in hypothalamus): regulates appetite by getting info from other body parts, leptin: fat, ghrelin: increases appetite, these two substances are detected in the body. There is a receptor for each: competing to control appetite. Prefrontal cortex (planning how much to eat: people that sit closer to the food have a higher bmi; people that take big plates have. Cortical inputs: power of food scale, hedonistic eating. Nucleus accumbens: motivate one to eat; food addiction: food shows some of the properties of addiction.
