Death anxiety: fear of death, death avoidance, death denial, reluctance to interact with the dying. Bereavement especially the loss of o(cid:374)e"s spouse leads to physical illness, and perhaps even death. Difficult to study: bereaved vs. non-bereaved people, non-bereaved people are still married, ma(cid:396)(cid:396)iage (cid:395)uality does(cid:374)"t (cid:373)atte(cid:396, similar size effect for men and women, also happens with close friends. Women: live seven years longer than men, tend to marry older men, men are seven times more likely to leave their seriously ill wives, average widowhood is 15 yeah, normative stage of the female lifecycle. 75% of the time, these people are female. Disability of days: could be due to emotional problems, could be due to new responsibilities. Symptoms reports: could be a bias in detection, could be a bias in reporting. Doctor/hospital visits: mental, not physical health, pressured to get checkups, stopped taking care of self during or after death.
