Explains why we are highly confident in their memories for this event. Emotional experience is what is retrieved not the details surrounding the event: narrative rehearsal reliving an event over and over. Confabulation supplying additional details that were not part of original episode. Flashbulb event mentally rehearsed and each rehearsal potential for more confabulation. Flashbulb mem deteriorate quickly but confidence remains high. 9/12/01 2 groups asked q"s: group one ask autobio details about 9/11, another asked about random event one/two days earlier, subjects brought back 1,6, or 32 weeks later. Fewer details recalled over time for both events.
