India never experienced a revolution (british just let go, india did not come together and kick them out). This is important because traditional social order is never disrupted. Towards independence: first nationalism (independence) movements start forming in the 1880s. Mohandas karamachand (mahatma translates to great soul") gandhi leads. Indian national congress using campaigns of non-violent civil disobedience.
