Document Summary

Aba: refers to the systematic application of behavioral principles to change behavior. Learning occurs through the interaction of the individuals with the environment. Reinforcement paradigms: any response followed by reinforcement increases. Punishment paradigms: any response followed by punishment decreases. Change the potency, or effectiveness, of a stimulus or event as a reinforcer. Shaping: used to teach new behaviors or change the topography of existing behaviors. Differential reinforcement: providing positive reinforcement when the behavior to be increased occurs, and withholding reinforcement when the behavior does not occur, or other behaviors occur. Successive approximations: providing reinforcement for behaviors that become increasingly similar to the target behavior. Extinction: withholding the reinforcement for a previously reinforced response. Stimulus control: behavior occurs under specific stimuli (cid:271)ut doesn"t o(cid:272)(cid:272)u(cid:396) unde(cid:396) diffe(cid:396)ent stimuli. Failure to discriminate: the individual cannot identify the discriminative stimuli. Importance: prevents inappropriate behaviors, sets the occasion for appropriate behaviors. Extinction burst: initial increase in responding followed by decrease.
