ASTR 107 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Carbon-14, Mariana Trench
Document Summary
Life as we know it- lecture- oct 5th astro 107. For life to be sustained we need 3 things: energy, carbon-based, liquid water. Habitable zone is the region around the star that provides the range of temperatures in which liquid water can exist. The habitable zone depends on the star"s mass and age. Yellow stars are the goldie lock" zone; it"s not too hot and not too cold for the three things needed for life. If there is two stars in the center- it affects the goldie lock zone. Energy for example is heat, like the earth"s core or the sun in our solar system. Scientists believe that life on earth started down in the ocean plates, or another theory, is that it was seeded" from meteors or comets from space. 3. 5 billion years ago (roughly) is when life began" on earth. Top four elements found in the human body: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen.
