Seven dimensions of religion that help piece together the complex reality we call religion. Out of the 7 dimensions, i am most familiar with the practical/ ritual dimension. Avoiding tragic situations-being late to work or taking off on 9/11. To discover the historical meaning of the text, the biblical theologian uses a number of historical and literary methods of investigation. Historical criticism - investigates the context out of which the text came, its sitz im leben (situation in life) Source criticism seeks to identify the materials on which an author might have dra(cid:449)(cid:374). For e(cid:454)a(cid:373)ple, mark"s gospel is the source for much of matthew & luke. Redaction criticism a literary science seeks to discover the particular theology and point of view of an author by analyzing how the author modifies a received tradition, structures a work or stresses a particular theme. Textual criticism seeks to establish the original text or version of a literary work.
