Lecture 11: empiricism- john locke and david hume: what was locke"s perception on empirical knowledge, empiricism: knowledge is gained all and only from experience (5 senses). Mankind does not have any experience and their mind are as clear as a white sheet of paper. Simple idea: something that can not be break down anymore. It is as simple as it can get. Cannot perceive w/o experience by the senses such as seeing the colour blue. You can"t explain color to someone who is blind unless they had previous knowledge on what color is: complex idea: something that can be broken down into more simple thing. Know the simple, group similarities b/w things before make claims about other things such as the existence of god. Primary qualities: something it has and really has. Quality that does not rely on your natural senses. No matter how different species approach the same item, the item will still remain the same.
