PHIL 1301 Lecture 9: Philosophy Discussion 9 - Leibeniz
Document Summary
Leibniz answer to this question can be explained as follows, god created the world but he included evil, and it does not necessarily mean that the world is not the best place to live. Leibniz compares the work of god with a wounded army, but with the victory, this tries to explain that the world is still the best place (nadler 123). The goodness of the world could not have been displayed if there were no evils. A wounded army but without victory is not the best (nadler 131). He draws another example from the field of mathematics that small imperfection will highly contribute to the perfection of the whole. The world is still the best place to live in we need to have evil so that, the prize of those who strive do right increases. First, there is no evil greater in the intelligent creature.
