Discussion 6 egypt and judaic and islamic customs. When one reads the writings of herodotus about egypt, a number of things stand out in regard to their religious practices. What is interesting about many of the practices and beliefs described for the egyptians is the fact that some of them were very similar and suggestive of the religious beliefs and practices of judaism and islam. They are the only people in the world- they at least, and such as have learnt the practice from them- who use circumcision (section 36). In judaism, the practice of circumcision is required, and it is a common practice in islam. The words and such as have learnt the practice from them suggests that the egyptian practice of circumcision may have been adopted into judaism. Pigs were sacrificed, and their flesh was eaten afterward in egypt as a part of a certain religious ritual.
