PHIL 315 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Chinese Wall, American Thinker
Document Summary
For centuries the walls have protected humanity from the threat posed by the outside. The chinese wall for example protected the country from various foreign invasions from the 5th century bc. C. in the middle ages they also served to demonstrate the military and economic strength of a kingdom or to delimit a territory governed by legislation. However, as the modern age entered and with the incorporation of gunpowder along with new siege techniques, they gradually lost importance until they became obsolete. In her book walled states, wendy brown does not believe that the walls are a thing of the past and she makes a very critical philosophical analysis of the role that the walls play today in our societies. At present, the walls are not located at the city limits or at key strategic points, but are located at the borders of the countries.
