Social Control/Social Bonding: first came out to understand juvenile behavior
Social bonds:
Attachment- extent to which individuals have close ties with others (family and parents in
particular)
Commitment- extent to which individuals have a stake in conformity.
Involvement- being engaged in conventional activities without free time to engage in deviant
behavior. Parents typically put you in activities.
Belief- belief in legitimacy of the law. We are in a legitimacy crisis right now with police.
Age graded theory of social control.
Informal Social Control
Definition: bonds that link members of society to one another and to social institutions, like
work, family, and school
