Document Summary
Method: write an essay, exchange essays, go into a different room. Iv: taste test the shock machine isn"t working, so in the mean-time, can you do this taste test of a new alcohol, receive essay rating 1-9 shocks (good-horrible) Dv: rate their essay to give shocks. Results: no frustration + good essay = low shocks, frustration + sober = medium shocks (sensible b/c good essay but still angry, frustration + drunk =high shocks (no sense, the essay was good, just angry) **individuals who were sober but frustrated knew they could not sensibly give 9 shocks so they gave a medium amount. Rational thought can now be inserted between frustrating experiences and negative feelings and aggression. When you get a cue, all associations with that cue are activated. Participants gave more shocks when presented with weapon cues vs. Replicated many times using different cues and outcome measures. Typical finding is increased aggression regardless of anger state.
