SOC 104 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Santa Barbara City College, Domestic Violence
Document Summary
Psychologists may look for ways to avoid, recognize and resolve these problems by better understanding these issues. Social psychologists concentrate on social problems that have a powerful influence on individual well-being as well as on society"s health as a whole, including topics such as drug use, violence, racism, domestic abuse, public health, bullying and aggression. Generally, social psychologists do not work directly in the area of mental health, but their research results have a significant impact on how psychologists and mental health professionals approach behaviors affected by social factors. For example, public health strategies also rely on persuasion methods that social psychologists recognize to motivate people to engage in healthy behaviors while avoiding potentially dangerous ones. Preview of chapter 1 from the textbook: Chapter 1: intro to social psychology: social psychology is the scientific study of how we experience, think and behave towards the people around us and how these people affect our emotions, thoughts and behaviors.
