Phaedrus: love is a guiding force toward a beautiful life. Love is of 2 kinds common + heavenly. Only heavenly love (intellectual/spiritual; unchanging) is beautiful. Love animates everything in the universe as a kind of creative power. Love is medicinal + musical, therefore it is beautiful. Love is driven by our search for our other half we feel (cid:498)whole(cid:499) in love. Eros is the youngest and most beautiful of the gods, and also the happiest, and the most pleasing. In the beginning philosophers inquired into metaphysical reality: chinese philosophers saw change and just rolled with it, western philosophers took change to be an obstacle to permanent unchanging truth. Intelligible realm: percieved with the mind, the )ntelligible realm is the (cid:498)real world(cid:499, (cid:498)realm of the forms/)deals(cid:499, truth, (cid:498)the beautiful(cid:499, appearance. Sensible realm: for example chinn"s brother looks hispanic, but he"s actually chinese/irish (appearance not reliable - untrue, not true, physical, changing, perceived with bodily senses, beautiful objects.
