We are no longer in a student position, we are teaching now. Teaching our reader to solve problems, to answer important questions, to understand new things, etc. We are trying to teach reader something new, that we are an expert. Not just writing what teacher wants to hear. Research writing - getting our audience to understand something better. We are basically adding to the conversation out there.
