CSCI 183 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Functional Requirement
Document Summary
Essential question: understanding the requirements of a system you design. Lecture, reading/chapter/novel/article during class, power point, movies (if need to collect info. ) Descriptions of the services that a system provides. Reflect the needs of customers for a system that serves a certain purpose. Requirements engineering: process of finding out, analyzing, documenting and checking these services and constraints. Requirement: user requirements: high level, abstract statement (natural language plus diagrams) of a service that a system should provide or a constraint on a system, system requirements: detailed, formal definition of a system function, services, and operational constraints. This document (functional specification) should define exactly what is to be implemented. Functional requirements: functional requirements: these are statements of services the system should provide, how the system should react to particular inputs, and how the system should behave in particular situations. May also explicitly state what the system should not do: e. g for mentacare system.
