Document Summary

Water phase changes: water is the only substance that exists in the atmosphere in 3 different forms: solid, liquid, gas. solid -> liquid = melting (absorbs = endothermic); liquid -> solid = freezing (releases = exothermic); liquid -> gas. = vaporization (endothermic); gas -> liquid = condensation (exothermic); solid -> gas = sublimation (endothermic); gas -> solid = deposition (exothermic) endothermic and exothermic processes: the process by which water changes state are either endothermic or exothermic. Relative humidity: ratio b/t the amount of water vapor present in the air to the maximum amount that could be present at that temperature. The measure of relative humidity is for a specific temperature. Rh is the amount of water vapor in the air at a given temperature. If temperature changes rh also changes even though the amount of water vapor remains the same. hydrological cycle: water continuously circulates between the atmosphere, land surface, plants, rivers, oceans, lakes underground water.
