Document Summary

Energy production results in atp - used in synthesis of proteins, carbs & lipids. Chloroplasts are the critical energy producing organelles of the plant cell. Is larger b/c its membrane is not folded into cristae. +the inner membrane is not used for the electron transport chain. Instead contains the light-absorbing system, the electron transport chain & atp synthase in a third membrane that forms a series of flattened discs - thylakoids. Chloroplasts have separate dna from the plant. A plant undergoes chemical reactions that are divided into two phases: The light dependent phase (ldp) and the light independent phase (lip) Ldp takes certain wavelengths of light and water to form oxygen, atp & nadph *** The ldp split water into oxygen and hydrogen ion in the lip. The hydrogen ion is used to reduce nadph which generates atp. Atp & co2 from the air are used to make sugars and other products (like cocaine) in the dark reaction.
