9/05/2018: we regularly consume claims about the social world and our leaders use such claims in decision- making. Makes no sense to expel talented driven, and patriotic young people. Inconsistent and contradictory claims on social world - it feels like truth does not matter: the social world is open to investigation---> provable statements, people act on patterns they observe even if they are not consciously using sociology. Informal drawing of conclusions based on experiences (evidence: may or may not be true--> perception, eg, "most college students drink, and it"s cooler than to abstain from drinking, eg. Everyday reasoning about the social world is prone to errors. The goal of sociology is to avoid these errors: overgeneralization: assumptions based off of a few cases that are visible to you resulting on you concluding this must be the case for everyone, eg.
