Definition: # of births / mid-period population * 1000. What are problems with this measure: total fertility rate (tfr): A summary measure of age-specific fertility rates. Difference between period tfr and cohort tfr. Definition: the level of tfr at which women, on the average, have enough daughters to replace themselves in the population.
