Cultural differences: warmer weather attracts crime, south & west lacked law enforcement back in the day, violent subculture. What else does the ncvs say about victims? than rural, suburban: ncvs & ucr together show victim-offender match. Both victims & offender have the following characteristics: residents of west & south, males, blacks, residents of urban neighborhoods, residents of low income neighborhoods, young (age 15-25) The victim/offender match also shows up with: homicide data from supplementary homicide reports (shr, ex. 18-24 year old young bm kills young bm: also get data on offenders from ncvs crimes of personal contact (rape & sexual assault, robbery, assault, for nonlethal violence, victims describe offenders as disproportionately male, black. Robbery is most likely to be an interracial crime.
