Surveys exclude truants and dropouts (unless they survey 10th graders) Many surveys do not ask about serious crimes (murder, dui) * verifying srd: testing for over and under-reporting. Compare incarcerated youth with normal youth in high school sample. Test twice to see if answers are consistent over time. Compare srd w/ official records to see if they match. When trivial items are excluded and only serious crimes are considered, they both agree that lower income have higher crime rates.
