Exposure to a traumatic event (experience or view of death, injury, learning of a trauma of somebody you are close to, etc. ) and: Avoidance of trauma reminder (activities, people, places, etc. ) No longer want to spend time with family or friends. Sometimes can"t remember an important part of the memory of the event. Might be an unconscious attempt to forget certain parts of it. Often have difficulty falling or staying asleep. Fight or flight response does not work properly. Cannot get the diagnosis of ptsd, but might be at risk for it. Traumas that are severe, uncontrollable, and unpredictable. Twin studies and family history of ptsd. People with ptsd are under chronic stress. Have a lot more cortisol in their system. Over-activity of amygdala (fear and emotional stimuli)
