High se may be fragile, especially if based on especially based on external sources. For people with high se, criticism and negative feedback are perceived as self-threats rather than opportunities to learn. High se may not reflect the cultural goal so it may not correlate with happiness. What people believe they need to do or be to have self-worth sources of self-esteem: relatio(cid:374)ship success, acade(cid:373)ic co(cid:373)pete(cid:374)ce, athletic pro(cid:449)ess, physical appeara(cid:374)ce, etc. People differ in the domains on which they base self-esteem, which means they may respond to success and failures in those domains differently.
