Document Summary
Bunch of neurons going from mesencephalon (midbrain) to metencephalon (where it is most concentrated) to the myelencephelon. Ascending portion of rf projects to cerebral cortex and is in charge of arousal and attention. Descending portion is in several brain areas that control motor neurons of spinal cord. Diencephalon (subcortical: lying below the cerebral cortex, composed of thalamus and hypothalamus. Telencephalon: cerebral cortex, receives sensory information and controls motor movements from opposite side of body (contralateral, limbic system (mostly subcortical) Involved in expression of emotions: basil ganglia (subcortical, concerned with the control and coordination of movement patterns, movement is what keeps you alive (traditionally speaking) Find food, build a shelter, protect against predators. Need to know everything except for the tissue dividing lateral ventricles and nucleus accumbens (must be able to label diagrams with arrows pointing to certain parts) Nuclei project to dfferent regions of cortex.
