The closest a theory can get is not yet falsified. Psychologist tend to study things that they cannot see or physically measure. It is need as a series of symptoms. A scale with a low and high anchor. Being that feelings are subjective using the lynchard scale is one the most accurate measure. Find if a different method of providing the same. Try and find theories to help explain that data. Start with things that you assume to be true. Based on the assumptions you try to expand on that. A combination of inductive and deductive reasoning. The constant part that is changed as a result of the independent variable. The group that gets the actual treatment or experiment. The group that receives a placebo or nothing.
