Recall (free recall): simplest test to give but the most difficult to take. Information must be produced with little to no hint provided. Cued recall: gives test takes hints about the correct answer. Recognition: requires test take to identify correct item from a list of choices. Easiest type of test for most people. Savings (relearning/retention): compares the speed that new material is learning to the speed of relearning of old material. Time saved between original learning and relearning=measure of memory. Implicit: memory which we know although we don"t experience conscious awareness of that knowledge. Explicit: memory is information that we know (or we should know) Ex. when asked to name state capital a conscious effort is made to remember. Two types of long term declarative memory. Semantic: principles of knowledge (ex. meanings of words) Episodic: events and details of your life history (ex. what you did for you birthday) Procedural: memory when you recall to do something.
