Ex: photographic/picture memory that lasts no more than a few 10ths of a second. echoic memory - a momentary sensory memory because of a sound. Even if it doesn"t catch your attention immediately, it can still be recalled within 3-4 seconds short-term memory - activated memory that holds a few items for a short period of time. Acquisition - the cognitive process of getting/learning skills or knowledge. Encoding - processing of information before it is stored. Retrieval - the process of getting information out of the memory system from long term to short term. Recognition - measure of memory in which the person needs identified items that were previously learned. Ex: multiple choice test (given answers/hints and have to pick the right one) Recall - measure of memory where you must retrieve information that was previously learned. Mnemonics - devices, or memory tricks, that help make it easier to remember information. (homes = all of the great lakes)
