Counterclockwise when viewed from north, counterclockwise when viewing south. Waning moon bit past full moon, would rise in evening. Not exactly in shadow of moon, a bit off. Only part of sun is blocked from view. Orbit that is not perfectly symmetric (gravity) Certain situations, we may be closer to sun than usual, and moon might be at farthest distance from earth. Sun and moon don"t have same angular distance. Moon not able to block all of sun. Ring of sunlight surrounds disc of moon. Eclipses recur with the 18 year, 11 day saros cycle, but type (partial, total, etc. ) may vary. Normally 2 solar eclipses a year, on average. Happen close together, likely that before or after a solar eclipse, there will be a lunar eclipse. The aim of science is a comprehension between the sense experiences in their totality, and the accomplishment of this aim by the use of primary concepts and relations.
