If everything he has seen is false and there is heaven, earth, mind or bodies then how do we that know that we exist. If the evil demon goal is to deceive us then how can he deceive someone that doesn"t exist, therefore we must exist: the first truth he finds is that he exist and he doesn"t doubt that. He thinks therefore he exists: what is the nature of the mind, according to descartes, the nature of the mind is that it can confuse imagination from knowledge. The mind wonders itself what it is, since we are the mind itself. So the nature of the mind is to question its identity and then differentiate between the illusions of dreams that it conjures and the hard reality it sees. He says that what is felt by the body has an effect on the nature of the mind.
