Motive - a musical fragment that can easily be identified by its pattern and rhythm. Centonization - the process of using prefabricated motives in combination to create a melody. The oldest method of creating melodies in western and eastern societies involved ceremonial chanting. It"s also part of american blues and jazz. Sequence - the motive is sung starting on a different pitch. Was created in the 14th century and is a mathematical process of composing. One comes from a pre existing chant from the official church. Color - the note set that"s created by the chant from the official church. Talea - the pattern that guided the rhythm of color.
