Virtually all our dynamic interactions with the environment involve muscle tissue. Wouldn"t be able to do anything without muscle tissue. Number fixed by the second trimester of fetal development. Force of action is directed along the fibers long axis. Individual fiber length varies from just a few mm from the muscles in the eyes to merely 30 cm in the large antigravity muscle in the leg. At fundamental level, a main purpose of the contraction is force generation. Provide bases fro internal forces by pushing and pulling on joints of the bod. Muscle is one of the primary tissue types. System consists of heart, blood and blood vessels. Pushes fluid and solids along the digestive tract, for example. The ability to shorten and exert a pull or tension that is then harnessed by connective tissue. If connective tissue did not harnessed that contraction, muscles would contract get shorter and fatter but have no real use.
