People became used to the smell and taste of the air. 6,000 illnesses (50% of the population of donora) Moved toward legislation to help clean up the air. Very thin layer, relative to size of the planet. Other permanent gases like neon, helium, hydrogen, and xenon. Variable gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, and chlorofluorocarbons. Can get layers of air trapped based on density. 80% of our gases are in the troposphere due to the pressure closer to the earth.
