On the same token, when white people show even a basic level of awareness, they are applauded: for a current example, leonardo dicaprio trended because he dedicated his. He was trending on social media, there were article written about him, and everyone was applauding his display of awareness. However, in doing so, the issue he spoke of (the injustice faced by indigenous people in this country) was drowned out. For politicians, and the government in general, issues like healthcare and housing seem to exist in a vacuum, separate from issues of racism. Systemic and institutionalized injustice does not become news/ become sensationalized: the various shootings of black people are an example from current day.
