Maslow"s hierarchy of needs: connection between self-actualization and creativity, physiological needs safety belonging self-esteem self-actualization, self-actualization: being the best you can be. Self-actualized creativity: maslow and rogers define as, using all of one"s talents to become what one is capable of becoming actualizing one"s potential, self-actualizing person is mentally healthy, accepting, and forward growing. Not all creative geniuses become self-actualized: janis joplin, john belushi, judy garland, dysfunctional personal lives. Special talent creativity: some individuals are born with a creative gift in one special area of talent, drive is extremely important (motivation to become an expert) Traits of creative people: aware of creativeness, original. Paradoxes of creative individuals: playful self disciplined, energetic quiet/restful, smart na ve, passionate objective. Safety first: must feel safe to develop and express their ideas, having gifted students together in a safe place, free of judgement and mocking.
