Active perception checking: describe the behavior, offer multiple interpretations, allow for feedback. Emblems: gestures that translate directly to a verbal statement. Known by most or all of a group, culture or subculture. (can be restrictive) Can be used as a substitute for verbal. Illustrators: gestures used to add emphasis, crate spatial relationship between objects, and show the movement of another animal. Affect displays: displays of emotional state or mood. Gestures and movement that signal the starting, stopping, and turn-taking in an interaction. Giving chance to speak with hands, eyes, etc. Not as intentional ass emblems or clear as emblems. Can be done with other cue types. Highly unintentional responses to stress or boredom. Showing of negative feeling about self and others. Is how we perceive, use study, structure, interpret, and react to messages of time. Present-orientation: paying attention to what you"re doing now. Future-orientation: can"t wait to get somewhere else. Mono- one thing at a time, highly schedule, and organized.
