All living organisms made of one or more cells. Cells = basic living units of organisation and function. All cells come from other cells life only comes from life. Cell division = part of the cell = continuity of life. Some cells do not divide, e. g. nerve cells and red blood cells. Eukaryotes: more than one dna molecule in nucleus. Chromosome: latin coloured body ability to pick up stain. Dna double helix wrapped around proteins highly organised matter . Dna + histones = nucleosomes = 146 nucleotide paris wrapped around 8 histones. Linker dna = ~60 nucleotide pairs linking nucleosomes. Gene: informational units responsible for structure of all proteins in a cell. 100"s 1000"s in each chromosome. Each located at particular locus on a chromosome. Genetic information linear sequence on chromosome. State of dna during most of cell cycle. Coils up only during cell division condenses chromosomes structures. A centromere: constricted area where spindles attach.
